HISTORY OF HOUSE Formerly known as The Meredith Upton house, the original log home, built in 1833 and situated on 110 acres, was a story and a half. There was a stone chimney on either end of the house. The chimney on the eastern side of the house provided for cooking over a fire. Thus the room that is now the "parlor" was the log cabin's original kitchen and living room. Sometime prior to the 1940s, the chimney on the western side of the house was torn down and a bathroom constructed in its place. The chestnut logs were covered with siding, the half story upstairs was framed into a full second story, the interior walls were plastered over, and a kitchen and auxiliary areas were added to the back of the house. The current owners bought the house and the property in 2006 and completely refurbished the cabin in 2015-2016, stripping the exterior siding, stripping the interior plaster, exposing and rechinking the logs. The hardwood floors were restored to their original beauty, new wiring and plumbing were installed, the master bathroom was totally renovated, and another bathroom was added upstairs. The back of the house added in the '40s was torn out and a massive great room with vaulted ceilings built in its place. At one end of the great room is the kitchen, stocked with state-of-the-art appliances, complimented by antiques repurposed for storage and display. The home has been owned by four families: the Uptons, the Waddells, the Bennetts, and the McFaddens.
